Service Catalog template – from Service Catalog Community

How to create a service catalog or a service portfolio? What should a service catalog contain ? What attributes should services have? If you think that reading ITIL (even version 3) is enough to get answers to these questions, you are wrong. That’s why the ‘Service Catalog Community’ has been established – the organization which brings together practitioners seeking answers to these questions.

Lack of: templates, samples of service catalogs and portfolios, guides for authors of services catalog are the most common problems reported by practitioners whose job is to create and manage it services catalogs in theirs companies.

 The main goals of Service Catalog Community is to define the Service Portfolio and Catalog Language (‘standards-based framework that will allow Service Catalog information to be shared with other IT functional areas and to promote the exchange of Service Portfolio and Service Catalog content among multiple vendors’). It is entirely an open source project.

After signing in the Service Catalog Community site you can gain access to the forum, articles on wiki, white papers, presentations, the template and samples of IT service catalogues and sample definitions of IT services. Most important the site is very much alive, you can also develop and send your own IT service catalog (or just a single service definition or request) for evaluation of the whole community (over 4500 professionals).
